If you are looking for a meaningful way to use your mother’s wedding dress for your own wedding, this custom bridal garter and handkerchief are beautiful examples of how the original fabric can be transformed into new heirlooms.
I handmade this white bridal garter using fabric from the bride’s mother’s wedding dress. The gown’s textured floral fabric gives the garter a soft, romantic look, while a handmade fabric flower preserves even more of the dress’s original beauty.
On the inside, I hand embroidered the bride’s wedding date in gray thread, creating a personal detail hidden just for her. I also created a coordinating white wedding handkerchief finished with a scalloped edge and a personalized heart made from the dress fabric.
Together, the custom wedding garter and handkerchief allowed the bride to carry pieces of her mother’s wedding dress with her while creating meaningful keepsakes from her own wedding day.
