Garter: Black Lace & Sparkle Sequin from Grandmother's Dress

I loved hand making this striking black lace wedding garter for the bride using a special detail from her grandmother’s evening dress. I carefully repurposed the sparkling sequin and beaded flower from Grandma’s dress and used it as the statement detail on the front of the garter. The combination of black lace, sequins, and intricate beading created a glamorous wedding garter that still held so much family meaning.

On the inside, I hand embroidered the couple’s wedding date in white thread. The white embroidery contrasts beautifully against the black and adds a hidden personalized detail just for the couple.

And, you can see the original dress in the photos below. I love being able to show where the heirloom material started and how I transformed a special piece of Grandma’s dress into a custom wedding garter the bride can cherish long after her wedding day.
