When it comes to selecting a color for your mother of the groom dress it may be a great time to communicate with the bride or your son's partner. The bride or partner might have a vision of particular colors they will recommend to you for your dress based on what they are wearing, their mother is wearing, the wedding theme and the colors of the rest of the bridal or wedding party's attire.
If you discuss with the bride or your son's fiancé and find there are a variety of color options to consider for your mother of the groom dress, think about what colors are flattering on you. Think about what colors you like being photographed in because there will be lots and lots of photos on the wedding day!
Make sure to choose a mother of the groom dress that feels comfortable enough for you to wear the whole day and night from the wedding's start until the wedding's end.
Wedding days are notoriously long. From the time you put your MOTG dress on after hair and makeup for those 'first look' photos to the ending of the reception is quite a lot of hours so you'll want to be sure the dress if comfortable enough to wear the entire time.
When it comes to shopping for mother of the groom dresses, shopping at the right time is critical for a pleasant experience. You'll want to be sure to shop early to avoid the drama and stress of a dress arriving last minute or having to shop for and find a dress last minute.
But, there is another side to this because if you shop extra early, be sure to try it on every so often and make sure to do any alterations appropriately close to the wedding. If you shop, select and get alterations too early then you may run into issues if you have any major changes that will affect fit.
Just like we in the wedding industry tell brides, we'll also tel you...don't be afraid to try on a different dress style than you typically wear. This event, your son's wedding, is a unique one, not your every day party.
Keep an open mind and consider trying a dress that is a style that might feel out of your comfort zone because it might just be the perfect one for this wedding.

She would love a personalized wedding garter embroidered with the wedding date, or something blue for wedding morning or a bridal shoer gift, or a custom wedding handkerchief that she can use for happy tears or as a bridal bouquet wrap.
And, if you're up for allowing her to use your wedding dress, or using your own bridal dress as a surprise for her, be sure to get my unique ways to reuse a wedding dress. From wedding garters to ring bearer pillows, there are so many ways to repurpose your wedding dress without her wearing it, of course.
