Small Business Saturday

If you are planning a wedding, you are shopping small! You don't have to work to hard to shop small when it comes to your wedding, so you can rest easy during Small Business Saturday.

For me, the best part of working in the wedding industry is that virtually all businesses are small and/or local businesses, just like The Garter Girl. Bridal dress shops are a small businesses and so are many of the wedding dress and accessory designers that they carry.

Wedding photographers, planners and videographers are all small businesses. Most rental companies and caterers are small, local businesses who employ lots of folks in the area where you are having your wedding. Most invitation designers are small business owners. Wedding blogs and influences are small business owners.

The wedding world is an industry, but it's mostly comprised of small and local businesses. If shopping small is important to you, then planning your wedding will feel really good!

So get out there and support the wedding industry by booking your wedding vendors and wedding pros for your big day!

Giving Tuesday

There are so many amazing charities out there. It is really incredible and heartwarming. There are two charities that we actively support here at The Garter Girl:  Wish Upon A Wedding and The Confetti Foundation.

Wish Upon A Wedding grants weddings and vow renewals to couples facing serious illness or a life-altering circumstance. I hand make a wedding garter for all of the Wish Upon A Wedding brides.

I also sit on the board of The Confetti Foundation who donates birthdays in a box and throws parties for children who are hospitalized. You can help kids who are stuck in the hospital by donating a birthday party right here.

So that's what I'm doing with my business to support the charities and causes that I care about. If you're getting married and planning a wedding there are lots o ways that you can support charities and causes that you care about with your wedding too. You can consider a donation to a nonprofit in lieu of wedding favors or even wedding gifts.

How To Donate Your Wedding

if you're looking to donate your wedding there are many things that you can do. The first thing to do is decide what causes or groups that are important to you that you'd be willing to consider supporting with your wedding dollars.

There are many levels to donating your wedding including donating money to charity in the name of loved ones or giving the money that would have otherwise been spent on favors or thank you gifts to charity all the way up to asking your guests to donate to charity the instead of giving you wedding gifts.

Some engaged couples, especially those who are older and don't need the money or have been married before and don't want to register for their wedding, will match their guests' donations to a designated charity of their choice in lieu of wedding gifts.

There is a wedding related non-profit called VOW for Girls that is dedicated to ending childhood marriage around the world. Yes, it is sad but true that there are girls who are forced into marriages that they do not want. Thousands of girls each year are forced into marriages and are unable to choose their own future.

VOW for Girls works with groups and non profits all over the world to end this practice of childhood marriage and give girls the hope and support they need to choose their own future.

If you are interested in learning more, you can check out VOW for Girls and consider donating your wedding to this worthwhile cause.

Options for couples planning a wedding include donating to VOW for Girls - or any other charity or cause you care about - instead of accepting wedding gifts, where you ask your wedding guests to donate to the charity.

You can also include a charitable donation option on your wedding registry, so your guests can choose if they want to donate to a charity that you choose or give you a wedding gift.

Another idea to donate your wedding is to donate the money that you would have otherwise spent on wedding favors to a charity or non profit that you care about. Many couples will put a note in their wedding ceremony program or on their wedding menu or put up a sign at the reception to let their guests know that a donation was made to a charity in lieu of traditional favors.

If donating your wedding or supporting a charity with your wedding is appealing to you, there are so many options and just like your wedding, it is entirely up to you and what you are comfortable with for your big day.

Yes, many of the deals are focused on holiday presents, but, trust me, there are wedding discounts to be found during Cyber Week. You just need to know where to look.

Here are a few tips for making the most of Cyber Week for your wedding to make sure that you get the best possible price for your wedding:

  • Sign Up For Email Newsletters - Most businesses an email list of some sort. If you know you want something or your are still thinking, be sure to get on the email list of any wedding business that you are interested in. They will typically email their Cyber Week discounts to their email list first. You can always unsubscribe. It is better to sign up and then unsubscribe than not sign up and miss out.

  • Check Social Media - Check the social media accounts of the wedding vendors that you are working with already and those that you think you might want to work with. They will typically post about any sales or discounts on their social media, like Instagram and Facebook.

  • Shop Online With Etsy - There is no better place to shop small online than Etsy, which specializes in handmade items. Be sure to check Etsy out all Cyber Week long, because their sellers will be having some great sales on bridal accessories like bridal veils, bride-to-be jewelry, wedding invitations, digital wedding downloads, wedding printables, and so much more.

  • Ask Your Vendors - If you've booked a vendor already, and they are having a Cyber Week sale on something that you've already purchased, be sure to ask them about it. They might honor the discount. They might not too, so read the fine print and be prepared that they might say no.

  • Go For The Extras - Cyber Week shopping for your wedding is good for all the little extras. You might not be able to get a discount on services like photography or a wedding planner, but you might be able to find a deal on the extras like an album or on an amazing pair of shoes you've had your eye on.
