This summer I entered a few stylish bridal lingerie looks into a contest and I really wanted to incorporate DIY elements into the shoot. Around the time I was gathering ideas for the shoot, Crochet Today magazine came out with a few crochet items for a wedding. It was perfect timing!
I used the crochet necklace featured in the May/June issue of Crochet Today. My friend, Allison, made the crochet part of necklace, since I'm a much better knitter than crocheter. I then added a few pearls and a coral satin rosette. Instead of making the metal closure per the necklace instructions, I sewed two pieces of grosgrain ribbon to each end to make a simple bow closure. Crochet items sometimes get a bad rap for being unfashionable or out-dated. I think this DIY necklace and wedding garter combo shows that crochet can be stylish and brides can incorporate it into their wedding day attire in unexpected ways! And, if you are a bride, but not a crocheter, fear not – ask a friend or relative to make you something! I'm not a very good crocheter, so I asked a friend to make this necklace for me and I love how it turned out!
The wedding garter pictured is ivory grosgrain with an coral satin stripe. It has three coral satin rosettes with ivory pearls.
Although, the pattern was changed a bit to get the look that I wanted, you can find the basic pattern for this necklace via Crochet Today. And, you can find the garter for sale on my Etsy page here.
