Custom Bridal Garter Made From Mother’s Wedding Dress Sleeves

Custom Bridal Garter Made From Mother’s Wedding Dress Sleeves

A big trend in the wedding industry that I see first hand is the focus on heirlooms and finding unique, but meaningful, ways to bring family and special pieces into a wedding day. These family pieces, be it old photographs, handkerchiefs, neck ties or pieces of a grandmother's wedding dress, then become a modern heirloom for the bride and groom to cherish and pass on through the generations. Going along with the heirloom wedding trend, I've had the honor of hand making many custom bridal garters from wedding dress material in the bride's family.

The custom wedding garter that I want to feature today was made from the bride's mother's bridal gown sleeves. The mother sent me the dress sleeves and then I used just one of the sleeves to make the most beautiful wedding garter ever! This bridal garter turned out so special and I know the bride and her family will cherish it forever, long after the wedding is over.

For this custom wedding garter, I took the lace floral appliqués off of the tulle on the wedding dress sleeves. These lace flowers were so pretty because they had ivory pearls sewn on throughout the flower. I added the heirloom dress lace flowers onto a few layers of tulle, added an ivory satin bow and turned it into a special wedding garter for the bride!

Thank you so much to this beautiful bride for letting me be just a small part of something so special! Also, thank you to the bride's mother who let me cut her wedding dress apart – I know that isn't easy to do! I wish you nothing but the best and a lifetime of new family memories and heirlooms!
