Learning To Sketch

Learning To Sketch

I recently took such a fun sketching class here in DC at Mandarin Oriental, Washington DC called The Sketchbook Series. It was a total blast and I really had a lot of fun stepping away from my wedding garters and my sewing machine for a day!

As a creative person, it is challenging to try to learn another creative skill like drawing. But, I often have to do sketches for my brides for their custom wedding garters. It helps them to visualize the custom wedding garter process and what their garter will look like after I make it. So, I figured that I better step up my sketching skills. When I found out that Mary was coming to DC with her sketching class, I was all over it!

The event was planned by bi-coastal wedding planners Karson Butler Events, so it was, of course, totally gorgeous! They had lots of fun things to sketch and practice drawing, like a wedding cake from Buttercream Bake Shop. And, the florals from Nature of Design Events were so dreamy! There were coral, peach and pink flowers everywhere – in the vases, on the tables and around that incredible cake stand swing from White Glove Rentals.

Here are a few things that I sketched that day…

So fun! In addition to the wedding cake and the floral designs, I, of course, has to sketch a few wedding garters and the Washington DC skyline! (The Washington Monument totally needs a wedding garter hanging around it, doesn't it!?)

I had a blast sketching with The Sketchbook Series and practicing my skills. Can't wait until it comes back and I can take level 2!
